德国将首都迁往柏林
原文内容: The

European

Union

is
the
largest
and
most
important
political
entity
in
Europe.
Its
borders
have
been
drawn
since
1993,
when
the
countries
of
Germany
were
divided
into
two
states
–
East
Germany
and
West
Germany.
After
World
War
II
ended,
Germany
became
a
state
again,
but
its
economic
development
had
suffered
greatly
compared
with
that
of
the
former
Soviet
Union
controlled
East
Germany.
However,
in
1990,
after
East
Germany
declared
and
joined
the
West
Germanic
nation,
Germany
once
again
emerged
as
a
separate
entity.
But
why
did
it
choose
to
move
to
Berlin
instead
of
Paris?
The
reason
for
this
decision
was
that
although
East
Germany’s
economic
development
environment
wasn’t
quite
as
bad
as
those
of
West
Germany,
the
capital
city
of
Berlin
had
far
superior
political
status,
cultural
background
and
influence
in
Germany.
As
a
result,
even
though
East
Germany’s
population
only
had
11
million
people,
it
could
be
considered
as
the
largest
and
strongest
city
in
Germany. But
why
did
this
decision
come
about?
The
main
reason
was
that
the
former
Soviet
Union
controlled
East
Germany
during
its
existence,
which
meant
that
it
wasn’t
possible
to
set
up
new
cities
on
the
same
borders.
As
a
result,
West
Germany
had
to
decide
on
its
own
capital
before
going
to
Europe
for
reunification.
This
was
one
of
the
most
controversial
decisions
made
by
the
EU. The
decision
to
choose
Berlin
instead
of
Paris
also
came
about
due
to
political
and
economic
reasons.
There
were
concerns
that
Paris
would
become
more
important
than
Berlin
when
the
Union
was
formed,
leading
many
people
to
favor
moving
East
Germany’s
capital
city
to
Berlin. Despite
these
issues,
the
Union
did
not
hesitate
in
choosing
its
own
capital.
In
fact,
it
took
nearly
ten
months
for
the
capital
of
East
Germany,
Berlin,
to
be
returned
from
West
Germany
after
the
Union
was
established.
